Arsenal Targets Leicester Teenager Jeremy Monga
Arsenal are closing in on one of the most coveted teenagers in English football, with Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga understood to favour a move to the Emirates over interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 16-year-old has been on the radar of all three Premier League giants this summer, his rise at Leicester drawing swift attention from the top end of the division. When the calls came, Monga’s preference was clear: Arsenal first, Chelsea and United in the queue behind.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are now actively pushing to strike a deal, encouraged by the player’s willingness to join the Premier League champions. That stance has injected urgency into talks, with the Gunners sensing an opportunity to move ahead of their rivals before the market truly explodes later in the window.
Leicester, though, hold an important card. Despite their slide down the ladder and the looming threat of losing another bright academy product, the club ensured they would not be left empty-handed. Monga has already agreed a professional contract with the Foxes, due to come into effect when he turns 17 on July 10.
That agreement gives Leicester the right to command a transfer fee, even as the reality of their recent relegation heightens the likelihood of an exit. The drop has only strengthened the expectation that a player of Monga’s profile and ambition will not stay long.
For Arsenal, it is another move that fits a familiar pattern: identify elite talent early, convince them of a pathway, and move decisively once the door opens. For Leicester, it is the latest test of how they rebuild while Europe’s elite circle around their best young prospects.
