Liverpool are now widely reported to be leading the race, with L’Equipe stating that talks are under way between the Merseyside club and PSG over a deal. The discussions, though, are anything but straightforward. The French champions value Barcola at around €170 million (£145m), a figure that Liverpool are trying to drag down towards the £85m mark.
That gap is huge. And it threatens to drag this saga all the way to deadline day.
For Arsenal, still credited with a strong interest, that timeline matters. If Liverpool’s negotiations stall and PSG refuse to budge, the Gunners may yet find the door opening later in the window. But they would be stepping into a market where the price has been set at the very top end.
