For a club that prides itself on developing talent, the timing cuts deep. Angers have already seen their plans between the posts unravel once this off-season. Hervé Koffi, outstanding on loan from RC Lens last year, proved too expensive to keep. His performances had earned him admirers and a higher price tag, and Angers simply could not follow through on a permanent deal for the Burkina Faso international.

Chabot has been progressing through the club’s ranks, featuring for Angers’ U19 side and catching the eye beyond French domestic youth football. His inclusion in France’s U17 squad for last autumn’s U17 World Cup underlined his standing as one of the more promising keepers of his age group.
