Alex Scott Pushes for Chelsea Move Amid Bournemouth's £64m Standoff
Alex Scott wants Chelsea. That much is clear.
Chelsea have already seen a £64million offer knocked back for the Bournemouth midfielder, yet the 22-year-old is understood to be keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge as the London club step up their pursuit.
Bournemouth, though, are refusing to blink.
The south-coast club insist Scott is not for sale as they try to secure him on a new contract after a standout season that ended with Europa League qualification under Andoni Iraola, now in charge at Liverpool. The plan is simple from their side: build around him, not cash in on him.
Scott does not share that vision.
He has no intention of signing fresh terms, with talks over an extension having stalled after an initial offer in March. At that point, Bournemouth were confident they could persuade the former Bristol City midfielder to commit his long-term future. Since then, the mood has shifted. Chelsea’s interest has hardened, and so has the player’s desire to move on.
The London club see Scott as part of a wider reset.
He is viewed internally as one of the players who can inject new energy into Thomas Tuchel’s squad after their bruising World Cup semi-final exit to Argentina. Chelsea want a midfielder who can carry the ball, press aggressively and grow with a young core. Scott ticks every box, and they are moving quickly to ensure they are not drawn into an auction.
They may not be alone for long.
Arsenal and Manchester City have both been credited with an interest in the England international, though neither has yet made a formal approach. For now, Chelsea are the only club to have tested Bournemouth’s resolve with a concrete bid.
Scott’s international story is still in its early chapters.
He missed out on England’s World Cup squad but was called up to train with the senior group before the tournament, a sign of how highly he is regarded within the national setup. A high-profile move and regular Champions League or Europa League football could sharpen his case for future major tournaments.
Chelsea’s midfield picture is shifting fast.
Enzo Fernandez has made clear he wants to leave, creating both a problem and an opportunity for the club’s hierarchy. The Blues have set a £120m price tag on the 25-year-old, and head coach Alonso has publicly stated he wants to keep the former Benfica man. With Real Madrid ruling out a move, though, it is far from certain any club will step up to meet that valuation.
If Fernandez stays, Chelsea still want to refresh the engine room. If he goes, the need becomes urgent.
That is where Scott comes in: a Premier League-proven midfielder entering his prime years, eager to make the leap, but locked into a stand-off between personal ambition and a club determined not to be raided just as they reach Europe.
