2027 UEFA Champions League Final at Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid
Estadio Metropolitano to Host 2027 UEFA Champions League Final
The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final is set for Saturday, 5 June 2027, at Atlético de Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano. This marks the stadium's second time hosting this prestigious match, following the 2019 final where Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0.
Location and History of the Venue
Located in Madrid's Rosas neighbourhood, the Estadio Metropolitano has been Atlético de Madrid's home since 2017. The stadium will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2027. It replaced the Vicente Calderón stadium and honors the original Estadio Metropolitano, which was the club’s home until 1966.
The venue can hold about 70,000 fans and features eco-friendly designs, including LED lighting and solar panels to cut energy use. Rainwater recycling helps maintain the pitch, and it was the world’s first fully LED-lit stadium. Fans can easily access it via subway line seven, stopping at Estadio Metropolitano station.
Madrid's History Hosting Finals
This will be the sixth Champions League or European Cup final held in Madrid, with only London having hosted more. The famous Estadio Santiago Bernabéu hosted finals in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010.
Match Details and Rules
The 2027 final concludes the 72nd season of Europe's top club tournament and the 35th since it became known as the UEFA Champions League. If teams are tied after regular time, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played. If still level, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout.
Other Uses and Future Events at Estadio Metropolitano
The stadium has welcomed various events beyond football, such as rugby union matches, the World Rugby Sevens Series Grand Final, boxing matches, and concerts. It has also been shortlisted to host games during the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
