2027 Spanish Super Cup Set for Istanbul with Four Top Teams and Three Historic Stadiums
2027 Spanish Super Cup to Take Place in Istanbul
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially confirmed that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey. The tournament is scheduled from February 2 to February 6, featuring four major teams: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad.
Agreement Signed in Istanbul
On a recent Thursday, RFEF president Rafael Louzan signed a formal agreement in Istanbul, marking a significant shift for the event's location. This change comes after Istanbul replaced Saudi Arabia as the host city due to scheduling conflicts with the Asian Cup.
RFEF President Highlights Shared Football Passion
"Today we are presenting much more than an agreement to organise a competition," Louzan said at the Turkish Football Federation headquarters. "It is rather the relationship between two countries that live football with extraordinary passion. Football has that virtue and responsibility: it unites countries and brings cultures closer."
Three Legendary Istanbul Stadiums to Host Matches
The tournament will unfold across three of Istanbul's iconic stadiums, with a total capacity of around 150,000 spectators:
- Chobani Stadium (Fenerbahce): 48,000 seats – hosts the first semi-final on February 2 between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
- Besiktas Tupras Stadium: 42,590 seats – site of the second semi-final on February 3 where Real Sociedad face Real Madrid.
- Ali Sami Yen Stadium (Galatasaray): 52,000 seats – the venue for the final on February 6.
Financial Impact and Expectations
This temporary move to Turkey continues the lucrative format introduced by the RFEF. The previous edition, held in Saudi Arabia, brought in €51 million, which was shared among the four clubs and grassroots Spanish football initiatives.
Organizers anticipate enthusiastic support from Turkish fans for this February 2027 spectacle. Meanwhile, the Spanish giants prepare for a competitive battle over the season's first trophy in Istanbul.
