2026 World Cup: Full Schedule, Results, Groups, and Viewing Info
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. After the qualifying playoffs wrapped up, the full lineup of 48 teams was finalized for this summer's tournament.
The tournament draw in December placed 42 qualified teams into groups, while six playoff winners filled remaining slots. The United States, as a host nation, automatically secured a place in Group D, beginning their campaign on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, facing Paraguay. Their group stage also includes matches against Australia and Türkiye.
Canada opens in Group B against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 at Toronto's BMO Field, followed by games versus Qatar and Switzerland. Mexico proudly hosted the opening match, beating South Africa 2-0 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. They share Group A with Korea Republic and Czechia.
Qualified Teams by Confederation
- AFC: Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Iraq
- CAF: Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, DR Congo
- CONCACAF: United States, Canada, Mexico, Curaçao, Haiti, Panama
- CONMEBOL: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay
- OFC: New Zealand
- UEFA: England, France, Croatia, Norway, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czechia
Tournament Format
Teams are divided into 12 groups of four, each playing three matches. The top two from each group advance to the knockout stage, joined by the eight best third-place finishers, making 32 teams in total. Tie situations will be decided by goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results, fair play, then drawing lots.
FIFA introduced a system to prevent the highest-ranked teams from meeting before the semifinals. For example, Spain (top seed) and defending champions Argentina (second seed) are on opposite sides of the bracket. The same applies to France and England, ranked third and fourth respectively, ensuring they cannot face each other until later rounds if they progress.
Teams from the same confederation cannot be drawn together, except European nations.
