Yves Bissouma Set for Ajax Move: A Fresh Start in the Eredivisie
Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is in Amsterdam to finalise the switch and complete a return to top-flight football in the Netherlands. The agreement includes an option to extend his stay in the Eredivisie by a further 12 months.
Bissouma's Career
For Mali, Bissouma has long been a driving force in midfield. For Tottenham, he was once a marquee arrival. Spurs signed him from Brighton in 2022 and he went on to make 111 appearances for the north London club, anchoring the centre of the pitch with his energy and aggression.
His time at Tottenham, though, lost its edge. In August 2025, then Spurs manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad for the Uefa Super Cup clash with Paris St-Germain, citing persistent lateness. It was a clear line in the sand and a moment that marked the beginning of the end for his spell in London.
Now comes a fresh start. Ajax, rebuilding and searching for authority in midfield, are offering Bissouma a short-term platform and the possibility of a longer stay if the fit is right.
For a player who once dominated Premier League midfields, the question is simple: can Amsterdam be the stage where he reclaims that level?
