Wayne Rooney Co-Hosts New Show with Mark Goldbridge

Wayne Rooney is stepping deeper into the Manchester United conversation – this time alongside one of the club’s most polarising online voices.

The former United and England captain will co-host a new Reds-dedicated show, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge this season. The programme will sit under Gary Neville’s rapidly expanding Overlap brand, tying one of United’s greatest players to one of its loudest fan platforms.

Rooney meets Goldbridge

Goldbridge – real name Brent Di Cesare – has built a huge following off the back of his explosive YouTube watchalongs and uncompromising opinions. Across his two channels, The United Stand and That’s Football, he has amassed more than 3.8 million followers, with clips of his rants regularly going viral.

Earlier this year, Neville moved to bring that audience into his own media empire. The former United defender bought Goldbridge’s channels in April for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, folding them into The Overlap network he founded in 2021.

Rooney is already a familiar face on The Overlap’s flagship show, Stick to Football. Now he will front a United-only spin-off with Goldbridge, blending insider dressing-room experience with raw fan reaction.

Disney+ deal supercharges The Overlap

The new show arrives as part of a major distribution deal with Disney+. The streaming giant will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season, giving Neville’s project a powerful global shop window.

Neville, who co-chairs The Overlap, says the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity” – a clear nod to the challenge of taking a fan-first brand into a corporate streaming environment without dulling its edge.

Since launching in 2021, The Overlap has grown beyond football, branching into cricket and rugby while keeping big-name football figures at its core. Bringing Rooney and Goldbridge together under that banner marks another step in that evolution.

From critic to kingmaker

Neville’s move is striking given his past criticism of fan-led channels. He famously labelled ArsenalFanTV “embarrassing” after contributors on the platform tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in 2017. The comments sparked a public spat on Twitter, before Neville later appeared on the channel to explain his stance.

Seven years on, he now owns one of the biggest fan channels in the game and is putting one of United’s most iconic players at the centre of it. The landscape has shifted – and Neville is helping to shape it.

Rooney’s growing media portfolio

Rooney’s media commitments are stacking up. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he will continue in his role as a pundit on Match of the Day.

Now he adds Stick to United to that list – a show that drops him straight into the heart of the modern fan-media world, side by side with a YouTube firebrand whose clips he might once have been sent in the dressing room group chat.

This time, he’ll be sitting next to the man behind them.
