Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati on Free Transfer

Tyrell Malacia is heading to MLS, with FC Cincinnati snapping up the former Manchester United left-back on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season, has signed a deal that runs until next June, with an option that could keep him in Cincinnati through the 2027-28 campaign.

Malacia arrives in the US after an injury-disrupted spell at United, where he made 50 appearances following his 2022 move from Feyenoord to the 20-time champions of England. When fit, he brought aggression, energy, and a sharp left foot to Erik ten Hag’s back line, but consistent minutes proved hard to come by.

"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.

"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."

For a club with growing ambitions and a league that increasingly lures players in their prime, Malacia’s next chapter starts now in Ohio.
