Trabzonspor Accelerates Move for Thomas Reis as Head Coach
Trabzonspor have accelerated their hunt for a new head coach, with Turkish reports indicating the club has entered a decisive phase in talks to appoint German coach Thomas Reis as successor to the late Fatih Tekke.
The Black Sea club did not linger after Tekke’s departure was confirmed. They went straight to Reis, a name that has already earned respect on Turkish soil after his impressive spell with Samsunspor in the Super League.
Clear plan on the table
According to Turkish outlet “61saat”, Trabzonspor officials have already held a first face‑to‑face meeting with Reis, who is currently in charge of Bulgarian champions Ludogorets.
During that meeting, club chiefs are said to have presented a clear roadmap for the coming months and outlined their vision for the team under his leadership.
The proposal on the table is built around an initial contract running until the end of the current season. On paper, it looks like a trial period. Inside the club, it is being framed very differently.
Sources close to Trabzonspor insist the board do not view Reis as a short-term patch. The idea is to use this first deal as a bridge into a longer project, one that would formally kick in if results and performances by season’s end match the club’s expectations.
In other words, this is an audition with a very real chance of turning into a long-running partnership.

Since taking over Ludogorets on 12 July 2026, Reis has overseen 11 matches and produced a striking average of 2.18 points per game. That return, in a short window, has caught the eye in Trabzon and is seen as proof of how quickly he stamps his tactical identity on a squad.
Those numbers build on a coaching journey that has rarely stood still.
Reis cut his teeth in youth football, working with the under-19 teams at Bochum and Wolfsburg, before stepping up to lead the first team at Bochum and then Schalke 04. His first taste of Turkish football with Samsunspor left a strong impression, both in terms of results and style, and paved the way for his move to Bulgaria.
Now, with Tekke gone and a fanbase demanding direction, Trabzonspor are turning back to a coach who already knows the rhythm of Turkish football.
