Tottenham Secure Brazil Winger Savinho from Manchester City for £75m

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City for an initial fee of £75 million. The 22-year-old has agreed to a long-term contract, with potential add-ons pushing the deal up by another £10 million.

The transfer has been over a year in the making, after Spurs failed to sign Savinho last summer. At that time, Savinho chose to stay at the Etihad Stadium but saw limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola, starting only seven Premier League matches last season.

"It's taken some time, but I’m very happy to be here," Savinho said. "This is a fantastic chance at a great club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke with the head coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Savinho joined City from French club Troyes in 2024 for £30.8 million. In total, he made 84 appearances for City, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists.

Spurs Strengthen Squad Amid Big Summer Spending

The Brazilian international joins a Tottenham squad that has already seen significant investment this summer. New arrivals include Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, totaling £312 million in spending.

Defensive reinforcements such as Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson came in on free transfers, alongside goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Roberto de Zerbi said, "Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination, and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to challenge defenders and the creativity to change games."

Meanwhile, City are close to finalizing another deal to send Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush to Tottenham before the transfer deadline on September 1.

Savinho’s Playing Style and Impact

Savinho's role at City diminished after January, following the arrival of winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Last season, he featured in just 31% of City's minutes across all competitions, a drop from 54% the previous year.

Despite limited game time, his statistics from 2024-25 underline Tottenham's willingness to invest heavily. He recorded eight Premier League assists—all from open play—while playing only 1,773 minutes. Only five players produced more open-play assists that season.

His ability to draw defenders and release teammates stood out, a skill that blossomed during his breakout season at Girona in La Liga. There, he played nearly 3,000 minutes in 2023-24, mainly on the left wing (65%), scoring nine goals and assisting eight times, becoming known as one of La Liga's most dangerous one-on-one attackers.

At City, he mostly played on the right side (36% of minutes) compared to 20% on the left, showing versatility that could prove valuable for Spurs.
