Tottenham Secures Mudryk on Loan from Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of completing one of the most surprising deals of the window, with Mykhailo Mudryk set to join from Chelsea on loan with an option to buy for around £75 million, according to Fabrizio Romano on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast.
The move caps a remarkable turnaround for a player who has not kicked a ball in competitive football for well over a year. Mudryk was suspended after a positive doping test and has not featured for Chelsea in any capacity since December 2024. The charges have now been dropped and he is cleared to play, but his path back into the side at Stamford Bridge has been blocked.
Enzo Maresca has decided there is no place for the Ukrainian in his plans. With Chelsea moving in a different direction and attacking options stacked, Mudryk has been deemed surplus to requirements. Tottenham have stepped into that gap.
The 25-year-old completed his medical on Tuesday morning, with Romano stating that the winger is expected to sign his Spurs contract on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of an official announcement later on deadline day.
“Yes, Mykhailo Mudryk will be a Tottenham player, he will sign his contract at Tottenham in the next two hours,” Romano said on the podcast. “Loan deal with an option to buy clause at £75million. He did his medical in the morning, so everything okay.
“Mudryk is going to be new winger for Tottenham, and as you said, a big change of plans because they wanted to sign Cody Gakpo at the beginning, then they considered the possibility of a deal with Iliman Ndiaye joining Tottenham and Richarlison going to Everton, but there was no agreement between Richarlison and Everton on personal terms.
“So there were some complications, and that's why Tottenham decided to go for the easiest option in Mykhailo Mudryk. It's a loan deal with an option to buy set at £75million that Tottenham would pay the salary of the player, and there is also a loan fee involved in the deal.”
Spurs’ Search for a Left-Sided Threat
This is not a deal that had been building for weeks. It has arrived at speed.
Tottenham have been hunting a left-sided attacker all summer. The club want a natural threat off that flank to balance the attack. New signing Savinho can operate on the left, but with limited options on the opposite wing he is expected to be used primarily on the right.
The first plan was clear: Cody Gakpo. Spurs pushed, but Liverpool chose to keep the Dutchman. Attention then swung to Iliman Ndiaye. Tottenham explored a complex chain that would have seen Ndiaye arrive and Richarlison return to Everton. Personal terms between Richarlison and Everton proved a stumbling block, and the entire idea collapsed.
That is when Mudryk’s name suddenly shot to the top of the list. On Monday evening, almost out of nowhere, he emerged as Tottenham’s solution on the left. Within 24 hours, the deal was close to done.
A High-Stakes Gamble
For Tottenham, this is a bold move. A player who has not played since 2024, arriving into a high-tempo Premier League side, on a loan that carries a potential £75 million obligation if the option is triggered. Spurs will cover his salary and pay a loan fee on top.
For Mudryk, it is a lifeline. His Chelsea career stalled almost as soon as it began, disrupted by form, competition and then the suspension. Now he walks into a dressing room that has been crying out for pace and directness on the left.
The question is how quickly he can be ready.
Mudryk could make his Spurs debut as early as Saturday, away at Nottingham Forest. That would be a rapid reintroduction to the Premier League spotlight. Given his long spell out, though, Tottenham are expected to manage his minutes carefully.
Even so, the stage is set. A winger with something to prove, a club chasing extra firepower, and a transfer that nobody saw coming at the start of the week. Now all that’s left is to find out whether this late-window gamble turns into one of the season’s defining stories.
