Vicario’s exit has moved quickly. On Monday, Fabrizio Romano delivered his trademark confirmation, posting that Juventus had agreed a deal to sign the Italian, with Spurs accepting a loan offer including a non-mandatory option to buy. Vicario, he reported, wanted the move and was leaving Tottenham immediately.
David Ornstein then backed up the story, revealing that Tottenham had accepted Juventus’ proposal – a loan with an option to buy the 29-year-old next summer – and that all parties expected the move to go through after a previous pursuit of Martinez was called off.
That Juventus chase for Martinez has collapsed. And that’s where Spurs have stepped in.
Martinez back on the market – and on Spurs’ radar
Despite having Antonin Kinsky on the books, Tottenham are not prepared to gamble on inexperience. According to Football Insider, the club have “made a move” for Martinez, exploring a deal to bring the 33-year-old Argentina international to north London.
The timing is significant. Aston Villa are understood to be open to letting Martinez leave this summer after securing a deal for Zion Suzuki from Parma. The expectation, as reported, is that Suzuki will come straight into the starting XI for the 2026-27 campaign.
That clears a path for Martinez. A World Cup winner, proven in the Premier League, suddenly looks available for a move across the division. For a club that flirted with the drop, it’s an opportunity Tottenham can’t ignore.
De Zerbi wants tools he can trust. Martinez would bring presence, personality, and a track record of delivering in high-pressure moments – exactly what Spurs lacked in too many games last season.
De Zerbi holds firm over Mikey Moore
While the goalkeeping situation dominates the headlines, De Zerbi is fighting another battle in the background.
Mikey Moore, the highly rated young winger who spent last season on loan at Rangers, is close to another temporary switch. BILD Rhineland, via Sport Witness, report that Cologne are on the verge of sealing a season-long loan for the 19-year-old.
But there’s a snag. De Zerbi is said to be blocking the deal for now.
Tottenham’s head coach does not want to weaken his attacking options until the club bring in reinforcements of their own. After last season’s close call, he is in no mood to let potential firepower walk out the door without a replacement lined up.
Cologne are reportedly calm about the delay, still expecting the loan to go through later in the window. For now, though, Moore stays put, part of a squad in flux while the club reshapes almost every line of the pitch.
Spurs have already torn up the spine of their team once this summer. If they land Martinez and unlock Moore’s next step at the right moment, this rebuild starts to look less like a scramble for survival and more like the foundation of something sharper, harder – and far more ambitious.
