Tottenham’s £145m Gamble: De Zerbi Lauds Sávio and Marmoush
Tottenham have doubled down on their attacking revolution – and Roberto De Zerbi could hardly hide his delight.
Spurs have pulled off a headline-grabbing double swoop for Sávio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, a move that sends their summer spending rocketing past £350 million. According to ESPN, the club have agreed an £85m package for Sávio, while Marmoush arrives on a season-long loan that carries an obligation to buy which could rise to £60m.
Two forwards, one clear message: Spurs are all-in on firepower.
“Bomba” arrivals light up De Zerbi’s week
Speaking before Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle, De Zerbi’s excitement was unmistakable.
“I think Sávio and Marmoush are bomba. I don't know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure,” he said, framing the pair as the kind of attacking weapons he has been craving.
The Italian has already overseen a frantic window in north London, yet he insisted the club are not done. Even with the squad reshaped at huge cost, he wants one more piece.
“I didn't expect one transfer market and one window like we have done,” De Zerbi admitted, reflecting on a summer that has transformed his forward line.
One more signing on the agenda
The push continues behind the scenes. De Zerbi revealed he met the club’s hierarchy over dinner on Thursday, with recruitment still very much on the menu.
“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he said. “But yesterday we went for dinner with the owners, with Vinai [Venkatesham], with Johan [Lange] and with Enrico [Venturelli]. We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection.”
That harmony at the top has underpinned an aggressive summer strategy. Now the focus turns to how quickly the new faces can turn investment into points.
Marmoush to sharpen the edge
Marmoush arrives with numbers that demand attention. The Egyptian international hit 37 goals at Eintracht Frankfurt and added 16 at Manchester City, a record that gives De Zerbi exactly what he has been missing: a ruthless edge in the final third.
His timing could hardly be better. James Maddison is not fully fit, Mohammed Kudus is only just back from injury, and Spurs needed fresh legs – and goals – up front.
“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” De Zerbi said of Marmoush. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack. We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.”
Sávio brings his own brand of chaos and creativity, Marmoush arrives with a scorer’s instinct and pace to burn, and De Zerbi wants one more addition before Tuesday night’s deadline.
Tottenham have spent like a club determined to crash the Premier League’s top tier. Now the question is simple: will this “bomba” front line explode in the way De Zerbi is betting it will?
