Swansea City Secure Ghanaian Winger Joseph Opoku from Zulte Waregem

Joseph Opoku, a 20-year-old winger from Ghana, has joined Swansea City after moving from Belgian team Zulte Waregem. The Championship side have secured his services on a four-year contract with an option to extend it by one more year.

Opoku arrived at Zulte Waregem in 2024 and played a key role in their promotion to the Belgian Pro League. He impressed with 10 goals and six assists during his breakthrough season last year. His performances earned him a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team for friendlies in May, though he narrowly missed out on making the World Cup final squad.

Adapting to Championship Demands

Vitor Matos, Swansea’s head coach, commented on the new signing: "He’s a young player who’s gained plenty of experience playing senior football in Belgium. We believe he can handle the physical demands and intensity of the Championship. Joseph is quick and sharp, qualities that will serve him well here." Opoku recently joined the team on their pre-season tour in Austria and has already taken part in training sessions.

Ben Stevens, Swansea’s sporting director, added, "We’re thrilled to have Joseph join us and look forward to seeing how his attacking talents develop under Vitor’s guidance. Two seasons in Belgium’s top division along with his involvement in Ghana’s national teams underline his potential."

Summer Recruitment Continues

Opoku becomes the fifth signing for Swansea this summer, following Elijah Just, Stephen Welsh, Moussa Yeo, and Leo Walta. The club appears keen on strengthening its squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.
