Swansea City’s Championship Ambitions: Matos Confident in Team's Potential

Vitor Matos insists Swansea City’s blistering start to the season is proof they can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the Championship.

Swansea surged back up to second place – behind leaders West Ham only on goal difference – with a 3-1 win over a struggling Burnley side on Saturday. It was exactly the reaction Matos wanted after their first league defeat of the campaign at Southampton in midweek.

Adam Idah, Moussa Yeo and Zan Vipotnik all hit the net as the Swans brushed off that setback and reasserted themselves as early contenders rather than early-season curiosities.

Matos, though, claimed he is not paying attention to the table.

“I think we have a team who can compete against every team in the league,” the Swansea head coach said, underlining the belief running through his new-look squad.

“That’s what we want. When we can compete against everyone, we know that on that day, at that particular time, we can have a proper performance and beat any opponent.

“If that happens all the time, we don’t know, but we will work our socks off for that.”

The message is clear: Swansea are not just chasing positions in September. They are chasing standards that might yet carry them all the way through a long, unforgiving Championship season.
