Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt from Liverpool
Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool story is over. Eintracht Frankfurt have moved in, and the Denmark midfielder heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 with clear promise but never truly escaped the grip of injury. She managed 42 appearances for the club, a tally that tells only half the tale of a brutal spell on the sidelines.
Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across three-and-a-half years with the Reds repeatedly halted her progress and restricted her game time, particularly in the latter stages of her stay. When she did play, it often felt like a comeback. Now she gets a clean slate in Germany.
Frankfurt, established contenders in the Frauen-Bundesliga, add a player who previously came through at Fortuna Hjorring and has experience in both domestic and European competition. For Lundgaard, it is a reset in a new league and a fresh attempt to put the injuries behind her.
Birmingham City Bid Rejected
While Liverpool reshape their midfield options, attention in the Women’s Super League turns to a move that is not happening.
Birmingham City have seen a bid knocked back for Sevilla winger Fatou Kanteh. The Blues, looking to add firepower out wide, put forward an offer understood to be around 100,000 Euros (£85,000) for the Gambia international.
Sevilla’s response was firm. The Spanish club value the 29-year-old significantly higher and do not intend to sell. With that stance clear, Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved bid.
Kanteh has built her entire professional career in Spain’s Liga F, and her numbers at Sevilla underline her importance there: 12 goals in 63 matches, a steady output from the flank. Before arriving in Seville, she turned out for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono, steadily climbing the domestic ladder.
For now, Lundgaard heads to Frankfurt in search of momentum, while Kanteh stays put in Seville, central to a team that has no interest in cashing in.
