Jamie Vardy, the former Leicester City striker, has caught the attention of Brazilian giants Sao Paulo as they consider signing him on a free transfer. The 39-year-old forward is currently a free agent after his contract with Cremonese expired this summer.

The Sao Paulo management has made an initial approach to bring Vardy onboard, according to reports by journalist Fabrizio Romano and corroborated by ESPN Brazil. During his stint in Italy, Vardy scored seven goals in 29 appearances but could not prevent Cremonese's relegation to Serie B.

ESPN Brazil reveals that formal talks have not yet started, but the club sees Vardy as a potential key addition. Some board members believe he remains in strong physical and technical condition, able to inject much-needed experience and a winning mindset into the squad. Others are cautious due to the financial demands and his age, as Vardy will turn 40 in January.

Vardy’s Career and Current Status

Vardy, who became a Leicester City legend by netting 200 goals in 500 games over 13 seasons, is exploring his next career move. He famously played a pivotal role in Leicester’s 2015-16 Premier League title run, scoring 24 goals that season. After finishing his time in Italy, he returned to England with his family.

While considering offers, Vardy launched a weekly podcast called Jamie Vardy’s Having A Party alongside former teammate Wes Morgan. He has made it clear he does not intend to return to Leicester City as a player but will support the club from the stands.

If Vardy accepts the offer, he would join Sao Paulo mid-season. The club currently sits 13th in Brazil’s top flight after 22 matches, struggling to find the back of the net with only five goals in their last six games.
