Sacha Boey's Future at Bayern Munich: Vincent Kompany's Support
Vincent Kompany has drawn a line under Sacha Boey’s uncertain summer and thrown his support behind the full-back’s Bayern Munich future – at least for now.
Bayern spent the window trying to move the French defender on, only to find that no acceptable offer landed on the table before the deadline. The market closed, Boey stayed, and the tone around him has shifted.
“Now the transfer window is closed, and Sacha is part of our team and has our support,” Kompany said at his press conference.
The message was firm: the shop window is shut, the player is back in the squad, and the focus turns to performance.
The reality, though, is brutal at a club of Bayern’s size.
“My role now is that he performs. But the reality is we have Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer in the position, and competition is already fierce,” Kompany admitted.
So Boey returns to a dressing room where his place is anything but guaranteed. He has to climb past two established options just to get on the pitch. Kompany’s advice was simple and old-school.
“You need patience and hard work. But anything can happen in football if you have the right attitude.
“We're simply treating him with respect. He's training very well at the moment, and everything else will fall into place.”
That respect, Kompany stressed, runs through the club’s hierarchy as well. Bayern’s attempt to move Boey on was no secret, and the Belgian coach didn’t pretend otherwise. Instead, he pointed to the way sporting bosses Max Eberl and Christoph Freund handle those hard conversations.
“What I've seen working with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and straightforward; also in dealings with players,” Kompany said.
“It's not always pleasant for the player, but you also gain a lot of respect from the players when you speak to them clearly and honestly.”
For Boey, that clarity cuts both ways. He knows exactly where he stands. Now he has to decide how far he can push back against the depth chart at Bayern.
