Ruben Amorim Targets Manchester United Defender Leny Yoro in Late AC Milan Transfer Bid
AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly interested in bringing Manchester United defender Leny Yoro to the San Siro before the summer transfer window closes. The Portuguese manager, who recently took charge of the Italian giants, appears keen on reuniting with the young French defender after a tough spell at Old Trafford.
Amorim Seeks Defensive Reinforcement
According to Tuttosport, Amorim is actively pursuing a deal for Yoro. The manager held an extensive five-hour meeting with AC Milan’s directors, Hendrik Almstadt and Bobby Gardiner, to discuss final transfer targets ahead of the deadline. At just 20 years old, Yoro has struggled with form and fitness since his £52 million move from Lille two years ago. A significant ankle injury early in his debut season hampered his progress, and under Michael Carrick's interim management, he has found first-team opportunities limited.
Yoro's Uncertain Role at Manchester United
Yoro's situation at United has drawn attention after he was an unused substitute during the club’s opening day defeat to Hull City. Although he featured late against Ipswich Town, replacing Diogo Dalot in the 73rd minute, he seems to have slipped down the pecking order. Despite this, Yoro has made 67 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once and providing three assists. A fresh start in Serie A under a manager who values him could be appealing.
Champions League Dreams and Atmosphere
"All the players in the world want to play in this competition. I did the Conference League, Europa League, and now I’m going to play in the Champions League. So yeah, I think the step is very good. It’s a competition with the best players in the world," Yoro said in an interview with Manchester United’s official website.
He added, "The other lads have spoken about when you train with the Champions League ball and hear the music of the Champions League, it’s just a different atmosphere from the league. We play against different clubs from all over the world, so [they have spoken to me] about the atmosphere and the magic of this competition."
AC Milan's Busy Transfer Window
AC Milan have been active this summer, spending over £128 million so far. The club is focused on strengthening three key positions before the window closes on Tuesday: an attacking midfielder, a left-back (with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde linked), and a central defender. While Yoro hasn’t publicly expressed any desire to leave England, the situation could change if Milan make a formal offer. Amorim sees Yoro as a perfect fit for his tactical plans as the club aims to compete on multiple fronts.
