Ronald Araujo's Impact at Liverpool and Support for Barcelona

Ronald Araujo walked off the Anfield pitch on Wednesday night having just helped Liverpool edge past Atletico Madrid 2-1, but his thoughts did not stay on Merseyside for long. Barcelona, the club that still owns his contract and shaped his rise, remains firmly in his sights.

On loan at Liverpool this season, the Uruguayan centre-back delivered a commanding display against Atletico and then spoke to "Movistar Liga de Campeones". Inevitably, the conversation turned to Barça and their chances in Europe.

Asked bluntly where he ranks Hansi Flick’s side in the Champions League picture, Araujo did not pause.

"Definitely, Barcelona are among the leading contenders to win the Champions League," he said. "They are performing brilliantly."

The pressure finally told. Araujo, stationed in the area, produced a deft backheel touch that wrong-footed the Atletico defence and opened the angle for Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian’s cross did the rest, beating Jan Oblak and dragging Liverpool level.
