Rodrigo Mora Transfer Stalemate: Porto and Roma Clash Over Fee Structure

The Rodrigo Mora deal has hit a wall. Not on the player, not on salary, but on the numbers Porto want to see guaranteed on the table.

Yesterday morning, Porto abruptly halted negotiations with Roma after the Giallorossi refused to accept the financial conditions set by the Portuguese club for the youngster’s buy clause. According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, the atmosphere around the talks has turned tense, even if the move is not officially dead.

Porto’s demands are heavy. The proposal on the table features a €10 million loan fee and a €40 million option to buy, loaded with clauses that could easily turn that option into an obligation. On top of that, there are bonuses linked to performance objectives and a percentage on any future resale.

Roma pushed back. The Italian club rejected this structure, unwilling to commit to such a high-risk package for a player who is still considered a developing talent rather than a finished article.

The stalemate has left super-agent Jorge Mendes in the middle, working as mediator between the two sides. Yet, despite his presence, there were no direct contacts between Roma and Porto yesterday, underlining how sharply the talks have cooled.

Next Steps

Now the scenario is brutally simple for Roma. Either they accept Porto’s conditions as they stand, or they return to the table with an improved formula for the obligation to buy. One way or another, the next move belongs to the Giallorossi.
