Rayan Cherki Shines in Manchester City's 4-1 Victory Over Crystal Palace

Rayan Cherki lit up Selhurst Park with a ruthless five-minute burst as Manchester City swept aside Crystal Palace 4-1 on Friday night to keep their perfect Premier League start intact.

Erling Haaland did what Erling Haaland does, too. The Norwegian matched Cherki with a brace of his own, opening his account for the season and closing out a statement win that briefly lifted City to the top of the table on six points from two games.

City were sharp from the outset and needed just 17 minutes for Haaland to remind the league why he finished as last season’s top scorer. Peeling away in the box, he met a cross with a precise header, guiding the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to silence the home crowd.

Palace hung in, survived to the break, and tried to drag the game into a scrap. Then Cherki took over.

Early in the second half, the Frenchman sliced through a crowded penalty area, wriggling past a tangle of bodies before stabbing in from close range. It was a goal built on balance and nerve, and it seemed to put City in complete control.

Selhurst Park, though, refuses to go quietly. Palace hit back almost immediately. Two minutes later, Cherki struck again. Picking up the ball just outside the box, he let fly. His shot took a deflection, wrong-footing Dean Henderson and rolling into the corner. Not the purest strike he will ever hit, but it sealed the first Premier League brace of his career and restored City’s two-goal cushion.

From there, the champions played with a swagger. Passes zipped, Palace chased shadows, and the clock ticked towards a comfortable away win.

Haaland added the final flourish six minutes from time. This time it was his left foot, a clinical finish that underlined the gulf between the sides and confirmed his own brace on the night.

Two games, two wins, and their star forward already firing. City’s title defense is up and running, and Cherki has announced himself as another serious problem for the rest of the league.
