Raphinha Plans Barcelona Future with Contract Extension
Raphinha has drawn a thick line under a summer of speculation. No Premier League return. No late-window twist. The Brazilian has made it clear: he wants to stay at Barcelona – and for longer than his current contract allows.
The winger, already tied to the club until 2028, has confirmed he is keen to sit down with the hierarchy to discuss an extension. Not just a pay rise, not a leverage play. A commitment.
Appointed first captain by Hansi Flick this season, Raphinha has responded exactly as Barcelona hoped. The armband has not weighed him down; it has sharpened him. He leads the scoring charts in Spain with nine goals, the driving force of a side that have exploded out of the blocks domestically.
Sporting director Deco has already hinted that Barça want to lock in his long-term future. The feeling is mutual.
"I renewed until 2028 with the idea that, by then, I would be 30 or 31 years old and I didn't know how I would manage," Raphinha told RAC1, reflecting on his mindset when he last signed. Back then, 2028 felt like a natural end point.
This version of Raphinha has ripped that plan up.
His physical condition is outstanding, his form relentless. That combination has changed how he views the final stretch of his career at the top of European football. Under Flick, he feels settled, trusted and central to everything Barcelona are building. The numbers back it up; the performances scream it.
Raphinha now believes he can sustain this output for several more seasons and wants to repay the faith shown in him in the most emphatic way a player can: by staying put.
"But given how I've started the season, I understand that I have enough to last a few more years. So, yes, I would be happy to extend my contract a little and finish my career here without having to go anywhere else," he said, leaving little room for interpretation.
Barcelona know exactly why they are so eager to keep him. His recent hat-trick against Racing Santander was a snapshot of his current level – ruthless, confident, decisive. The kind of display that turns a good forward into a franchise player.
Next up is Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Saturday, where the captain will chase goal number 10 in the league and try to keep this blistering run alive. After that, the stage gets even bigger again: crucial UEFA Champions League fixtures loom, with Raphinha already in rhythm after scoring twice in the 5-1 demolition of Feyenoord.
If this is how he plays with contract talk swirling, Barcelona will be in no rush to let the conversation end.
