Rafael Leao Addresses Future Amid Transfer Speculation
Rafael Leao has had enough.
With rumours swirling around his future at San Siro, the Portugal international went public on Instagram to slam what he called “speculation and stories that aren’t true” and to draw a hard line over who actually speaks for him.
The 27-year-old posted a training photo in Milan colours and paired it with a clear message: his head is on the pitch, not on the market.
“My only thought is on the field: I am concentrated on giving my best, every single game and every single training session,” he wrote, before spelling out exactly who controls his career. “Just to avoid any form of speculation and stories that aren’t true, I repeat that for some time I’ve assigned all my interests exclusively to my family and my lawyers. Nobody else is authorised to speak for me. My mind is on the next objectives.”
That last line landed with weight. Because the noise around him is only getting louder.
Turkish pressure, Italian stance
Galatasaray have been strongly linked with a move for the former Lille winger, with reports of proposals already sent to Milan. Fenerbahce and Besiktas are also watching the situation, sensing an opportunity if a deal with the reigning Turkish champions stalls.
The sporting logic is obvious: Leao had hinted at the end of last season that his cycle in Milan might be coming to an end, talking about a desire for a “fresh challenge”. Yet a switch to one of Europe’s top five leagues has not materialised, leaving the Super Lig as the most concrete path out.
Milan, though, are not blinking.
The Rossoneri have, according to reports, already knocked back an initial Galatasaray offer in the region of €35 million. The message from the Italian side is just as firm as Leao’s Instagram post: they want a package of at least €60 million, bonuses included, before they will even think about sanctioning a sale.
So while Turkish clubs circle, the price tag draws a thick red line across the negotiation table.
Control, contracts and quiet tension
Leao’s decision to publicly name only his family and lawyers as authorised to handle his interests is no small detail. It reads as a clear attempt to distance himself from intermediaries or agents who might be presenting themselves as go-betweens to clubs such as Galatasaray.
That stance drops into an already complex backdrop.
Milan hold a contract with Leao until June 2028. On paper, that gives the club strong leverage: there is no urgent need to renew, no immediate risk of losing him for a cut price. They can afford to wait, to demand their number, to reject what they consider lowball bids.
But that same long-term security also creates a different kind of tension. Here is a player who has previously hinted he was ready for something new, tied to a club that is open to selling at the right figure yet under no pressure to compromise.
