PSG Agree to Sign Mika Godts for €55m
Paris Saint-Germain have moved decisively in the market, reaching a verbal agreement with Ajax to sign highly rated winger Mika Godts in a deal worth €55m (£46.9m).
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that PSG have verbally agreed the package after submitting a new official bid. The paperwork has not yet been exchanged, but the framework of the transfer is in place and the French champions look set to add another weapon to Luis Enrique’s attack.
Godts is expected to arrive as part of a broader reshaping of PSG’s frontline. The club are also closing in on Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in a separate deal, a double swoop that points to a clear consequence: Bradley Barcola is edging closer to the exit.
Godts and Torres in, Barcola pushed towards the door
Once Godts and Torres are through the door, PSG will have significantly reinforced their wide options. That inevitably places Barcola’s future under the spotlight, with the France international increasingly viewed as a major saleable asset rather than a guaranteed starter.
Liverpool have been watching closely. The Premier League side are understood to have held regular talks with PSG this week over Barcola, anticipating exactly this kind of movement in Paris’ transfer plans. With two new wingers effectively lined up, the Ligue 1 champions can afford to listen more seriously to offers.
PSG’s stance, though, remains firm on price. Their ideal valuation is around £145m, a figure that has always been a stretch for Liverpool. Internally, the Anfield hierarchy are thought to rate Barcola closer to the £100m mark. The gap is obvious; the negotiation now is about whether both clubs can find a number that satisfies each side’s view of the player’s potential and market value.
Liverpool waiting for the domino to fall
From Liverpool’s perspective, the timing is far from perfect. With a trip to Newcastle looming in nine days, any new arrival from Paris will have missed the bulk of pre-season integration. That makes bedding in a major attacking signing more complicated for the coaching staff, especially if Barcola is expected to play a central role straight away.
Still, the Godts breakthrough could be the trigger they have been waiting for. As PSG move towards finalising their incoming business, the pressure to offload “spare parts” in the squad will only grow. Luis Enrique’s side can now operate from a more relaxed position in terms of squad depth, but a more pragmatic one in terms of balancing the books.
How far PSG are prepared to climb down from that £145m asking price will define the next phase of this saga. Liverpool will push to keep the fee closer to their own valuation, hoping that the double addition of Godts and Torres nudges the French club towards compromise.
One thing is clear: with the window closing in September and Godts’ move edging towards completion, the Barcola question is about to demand a definitive answer.
