Premier League Transfer Window: Last Minute Moves and Big Names
The clock is ticking. Four days left before the summer transfer window slams shut and the Premier League is braced for a frantic finish.
Clubs are scrambling, agents are circling and some very big names could yet be on the move.
Big guns circling: United, Liverpool, City, Chelsea
Manchester United are still hunting a left-back, determined to get one more defensive deal over the line before Tuesday’s deadline.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are closing in on a statement signing. Bradley Barcola is expected to arrive in a nine-figure deal, a blockbuster move that would reshape their attacking options and send a message to the rest of the division.
Chelsea’s summer could take another dramatic twist. Enzo Fernandez is at the centre of a huge story, with Manchester City reported to have agreed a £120million fee for the Argentine midfielder. If completed, it would make him the most expensive midfielder in history, eclipsing the current record held by Elliot Anderson. A contract running to 2032 is said to be on the table, underlining City’s intent to lock down their midfield for the long term.
Done deals: Brentford and Chelsea move players on

Brentford have sealed the signing of El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United. The left-back joins for around £40m on a five-year contract, a serious outlay and a clear sign of Brentford’s ambition to keep evolving under Thomas Frank.
Chelsea, busy as ever, have sanctioned a defensive departure. Mamadou Sarr has joined Real Sociedad on loan until the end of the season. The deal is a straight loan with no option to buy, and the defender travelled to Spain earlier in the week to complete his medical and finalise the move.
Ipswich make a statement
Newly-promoted Ipswich Town are refusing to play the part of grateful guests.
They have confirmed the signing of Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen. The World Cup-winning Argentina midfielder arrives for an initial £19.3m, with a further £4.3m in potential add-ons. It’s a marquee signing for the Blues, and Palacios could make his debut against Manchester United on Sunday. That’s a baptism of fire if ever there was one.
Ipswich may not be done either. Tammy Abraham has a decision to make over a proposed loan from Aston Villa. A straight loan deal is agreed between the clubs, but the striker is yet to give the green light. With Nicolas Jackson arriving from Chelsea and pushing Abraham further down the pecking order at Villa Park, the next move rests entirely with the forward.
Everton and Forest eye midfield reinforcements
At Goodison Park, Everton are weighing up a late move for Stuttgart midfielder Bilal El Khannouss, according to Sky Germany. The Morocco international is attracting interest from several clubs, and Stuttgart are said to want around £52m to let him go. That is elite-level money. If Everton choose to go that high, it would be a major statement and a major gamble.
Nottingham Forest are working on a deal of their own in the middle of the park. Talks are ongoing with Corinthians over Brazilian midfielder Andre, with discussions focusing on the financial structure of the proposed switch. Forest have not been shy in the market in recent windows, and this would be another bold addition if they can get it over the line.
United reshaping their attack and youth ranks
Manchester United’s forward line and academy pathways are also in motion.
The club are in advanced talks with Fiorentina over a loan move for Joshua Zirkzee, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The proposed deal includes a £4.2m fee, though it is not yet clear whether the Italian side will have an option to buy at the end of the loan. Zirkzee’s potential exit has forced United to look elsewhere.
Igor Matanovic of Freiburg has emerged as a late target. Standing at six feet five inches, the striker offers a very different profile and has been identified as a possible replacement should Zirkzee head to Serie A. Tottenham have also been credited with interest in Matanovic, setting up a potential tussle in the final days of the window.
There is movement in United’s youth ranks too. Arsenal have been given the green light to sign Habeeb Ogunneye, according to football.london. The youngster has already said his goodbyes ahead of joining the Premier League champions on a free transfer, with United inserting a significant sell-on clause into the deal. It’s a nod to his potential – and a reminder that even academy business now comes with serious long-term planning.
Toby Collyer is also on the move. The young midfielder is close to joining West Bromwich Albion on loan, with talks at an advanced stage for a switch to the Hawthorns before next week’s deadline. It’s a chance for regular senior minutes in the Championship and a test of whether he can translate youth promise into first-team influence.
European interest: AC Milan look to England again
Across the continent, AC Milan are casting an eye on the Premier League.
The Italian giants are considering a late swoop for Nottingham Forest winger Omari Hutchinson, as reported by the Daily Mail. Hutchinson is understood to be keen on a move to San Siro if the opportunity arises, and any agreement would likely be a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. For Forest, it would be another big decision in a window already full of them.
