Premier League Transfer News: Full-backs, Forwards, and Late Summer Scramble

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is almost complete. The next hole to plug is at left back. Talks have already taken place with the camp of Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde, as United explore their options on that flank.

The market has come to them as well. RB Leipzig’s David Raum and Racing’s Jorge Salinas have both been offered to United, giving the club a range of profiles to weigh up as they sketch out the final stage of their squad overhaul.

One target, though, is off the table. Newcastle United have told United that Lewis Hall is not for sale. The Magpies have opened negotiations over an improved contract for the 19-year-old, determined to lock down a player they see as central to their future.

At Liverpool, the conversation keeps circling back to goals. The club have registered interest in Real Madrid forward Endrick, but the Brazilian has ruled out leaving the Bernabéu this summer, closing that door before it ever really opened.

The hunt for competition — and protection — for Alexander Isak remains a priority. Liverpool have discussed Porto’s William Gomes, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta as potential options to deepen their attacking line.

Mateta’s name is not only echoing around Anfield. Tottenham Hotspur are also tracking the Crystal Palace striker as they look to add more punch to Ange Postecoglou’s front line.

Spurs’ business may not stop there. Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is expected to follow teammate Savinho to north London in a deal worth around $75 million (£55 million), a move that would significantly reshape Tottenham’s attacking options.

City, for their part, are eyeing the heart of Barcelona’s midfield. They are plotting a move for Frenkie de Jong once he returns from injury, with an approach under consideration for January as Pep Guardiola looks to refresh his engine room.

In London, the future of Nicolas Jackson is becoming a central storyline. Atlético Madrid director Mateu Alemany has flown in for talks with Chelsea over a loan for the striker, sensing an opportunity to reinforce Diego Simeone’s attack.

Chelsea, though, are leaning in a different direction. They would prefer to sell Jackson outright and are braced for an $89 million (£65 million) bid from Aston Villa, a fee that would mark a major commitment from Unai Emery’s side.

That interest is tied directly to uncertainty over Ollie Watkins. The England forward is pushing for a move to Al Hilal after the Saudi club failed with a fourth offer worth $61 million (£45 million). Villa now face a pivotal call on whether to cash in or stand firm.

At the back, the late-window market is beginning to stir. Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham are all weighing a move for Bayer Leverkusen center back Edmond Tapsoba, setting up a potential Premier League tug-of-war for one of the Bundesliga’s most coveted defenders.

Liverpool’s midfield plans could trigger one of the summer’s biggest cheques. They are chasing Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton as they prepare to sell Curtis Jones to Inter. Palace’s price is steep: a deal could cost as much as $136 million (£100 million), a figure that would place Wharton among the most expensive midfielders in history.

On the continent, AC Milan are quietly plotting their own defensive reset. The Italian giants are in the market for a new center back and are considering a move for Manchester City’s Rúben Dias, who is available for transfer. Landing the Portugal international would be a statement of intent from San Siro.

La Liga: Power plays in Madrid and Barcelona

In Spain, the transfer drama is laced with familiar heavyweight names.

Real Madrid are prepared to make a hard call on Rodrygo. Once the winger returns from injury, his future will hinge on whether he convinces José Mourinho. With just two years left on his contract, Madrid are ready to consider a sale if he fails to impress their new coach.

Across the capital, Atlético Madrid’s stance on Julián Alvarez has shifted. Having previously rejected his transfer request, the club have now told the striker they will negotiate his sale — but only with Arsenal. Alvarez has turned that option down and is instead pushing for a move to Barcelona, setting up a standoff that could define his next step.

Barcelona are already working on a Plan B. As a potential alternative to Alvarez, the Catalan club have agreed personal terms with Inter forward Lautaro Martínez, moving quickly to secure a route into the Serie A champion’s attack.

The push has heavyweight backing. Lionel Messi has urged his Argentina teammate Martínez to join Barcelona if he wants to win the Champions League, a pointed endorsement from a player who knows better than anyone what that stage demands.

Back in Madrid, the European champions could profit from a deal they are not even driving. Nottingham Forest are pursuing Celta Vigo defender Javi Rueda, and Real Madrid hold a 50% sell-on clause. A successful transfer could deliver Los Blancos as much as $17.5 million (€15 million) — a timely windfall as the next phase of their own squad rebuild looms.
