Portsmouth Sign Defender Benjamin Arthur on Loan from Brentford
Portsmouth have moved to strengthen their back line with the season-long loan signing of defender Benjamin Arthur from Premier League side Brentford.
The 20-year-old centre-half heads to Fratton Park after a spell in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic last term, where he featured six times. Those games added to his early taste of senior football at Brentford, for whom he has made three first-team appearances.
Arthur also arrives with international pedigree, having been capped by England at youth level up to the Under-20s, underlining his status as one of the country’s emerging defensive prospects.
John Mousinho's Comments
"We're thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks," he said. "He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.
"Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football, and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship."
Arthur now steps into a Portsmouth side intent on kicking on again at Championship level, with his development and their ambition set to run side by side over the coming campaign.
