Key Signing Each Premier League Club Needs Before Transfer Window Closes

The Premier League transfer window is winding down, with just under a month left before it closes on September 1. Despite the disruptions caused by the World Cup, clubs have been actively strengthening their squads ahead of the August 21 season start. Still, every one of the 20 Premier League teams has at least one key area requiring reinforcement to compete effectively this season.

Arsenal — Central Midfielder

While Arsenal’s interest in Vinícius Júnior grabs headlines, bolstering central midfield is more pressing. Last season’s heavy reliance on Declan Rice drained his energy, visible during the World Cup. Alternatives like Martín Zubimendi and Myles Lewis-Skelly have yet to prove reliable. Arsenal would benefit greatly from adding a box-to-box midfielder who can share the workload. Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle is their prime target to strengthen this position.

Aston Villa — Left Back

With the potential departure of Lucas Digne back to PSG, Aston Villa's options at left back will be limited mainly to Ian Maatsen. Though talented and attack-minded, Maatsen needs support as Villa returns to Champions League action. Securing another left back is essential to provide depth and competition in that role.

Bournemouth — Winger

Bournemouth’s winger options are thin, especially with Rayan attracting interest from top European clubs and Saudi Arabia. Current choices like Ben Gannon-Doak, David Brooks, and Amine Adli offer little inspiration for manager Marco Rose. While right back reinforcements seem underway with Juanlu Sánchez, adding new wingers is vital to handle Europa League demands and compensate for Antoine Semenyo’s winter exit.

Brentford — Left Back

Brentford’s left back spot remains vulnerable. Rico Henry’s injury record means he can't be fully relied on, and Keane Lewis-Potter is not a natural fit there. Signing a dependable left back is a must for the Bees to ensure stability and cover in defense.

Brighton & Hove Albion — Striker

The exit of Danny Welbeck to Chelsea leaves Brighton short upfront. Welbeck scored 13 Premier League goals last season, and now Brighton must find a proven striker to fill that gap. Their current options are young and untested in the league, making it crucial to bring in a clinical forward capable of handling Conference League challenges.

Chelsea — Goalkeeper

Despite several signings under Xabi Alonso, Chelsea still need an elite goalkeeper. Robert Sánchez improved last season but is not yet the level the club requires. The Blues have long sought a top-class stopper; whether Alonso trusts Sánchez or promotes Mike Penders remains uncertain. Bringing in a high-quality goalkeeper is a priority to help Chelsea progress quickly.

Coventry City — Left Back

Coventry is close to finalizing Carl Rushworth’s permanent signing as goalkeeper and will soon focus on left back. Frank Lampard wants an experienced Premier League defender to handle tough wingers around the league. Adding a strong left back is critical alongside targeting a sharp striker.

Crystal Palace — Center Back

Crystal Palace have seen major losses in central defense with Marc Guéhi and Maxence Lacroix leaving. Remaining senior players Chris Richards, Chadi Riad, and Jaydee Canvot offer limited experience. A failed attempt to sign Chrislain Matsima means Palace need to look elsewhere for at least one or two center backs to shore up their backline.

Everton — Defensive Midfielder

Everton’s priority is strengthening defensive midfield after losing Idrissa Gana Gueye on a free transfer. While Hayden Hackney arrived from Middlesbrough, a true enforcer is missing.
