Omar Marmoush is on the brink of swapping Manchester blue for north London white, with his move to Tottenham Hotspur now in its final stretch.
The Egypt international said his goodbyes at Manchester City today after being granted permission to undergo a medical at Spurs, a key step before the deal is officially signed off.
Loan now, £50m later
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marmoush is preparing for those medical tests ahead of a loan move to Tottenham that carries an obligation to buy. The figures are hefty: £50 million guaranteed, plus £10 million in add-ons, £5 million of which are certain to be triggered.
The structure is clear. Marmoush arrives initially on loan, but Spurs are effectively committing to a long-term investment. The 25-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract with an option for a fifth season. Eintracht Frankfurt, his former club, will not receive a sell-on percentage as part of this agreement.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has backed up those details, adding that Marmoush is scheduled to sign for Tottenham on Thursday, pending the successful completion of his medical.
From promise at Frankfurt to a crowded City attack
Marmoush only joined Manchester City in January 2025, earning his move off the back of an impressive spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, where his form in the Bundesliga pushed him into the Premier League spotlight.
But at City, he ran into a familiar problem for many forwards: competition everywhere he turned.
Across all competitions last season, Marmoush scored eight goals, yet started just 16 matches. The numbers told their own story. Impact, yes. Status, no. He never truly cemented himself as a first-choice starter, and the depth in City's attacking line eventually nudged him towards the exit door in search of a bigger role and more reliable minutes.
Weeks of speculation followed, with Marmoush repeatedly linked with a move away from the Etihad. His desire for regular game time drove the narrative, and Tottenham sensed an opportunity.
Spurs’ rebuild and De Zerbi’s new spearhead
Tottenham had already been in deep talks with City this summer, working on a deal for Brazilian winger Savinho. That move went through for £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons, but Spurs did not stop there. At the same time, they pushed hard for Marmoush.
English reports had already outlined the framework: a loan agreement with City, including a £50 million buy clause that becomes obligatory once certain conditions are met. Those conditions are now essentially a formality, with the medical the final hurdle.
This transfer drops into the middle of a huge summer of spending for Tottenham. After finishing 17th in the Premier League last season, the club has unleashed more than £300 million on a sweeping rebuild. Roberto De Zerbi, brought in to reset the project, wants a sharper, more flexible attack after a stuttering start to the new campaign.
Marmoush fits that brief. Mobile, direct, able to play through the middle or drift wide, he offers De Zerbi another option to reshape the front line.
