Newcastle United Pursues Inter Milan's Davide Frattesi

Newcastle United have stepped into the race for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, going head-to-head with Lazio for the Italian’s signature, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The move comes as Newcastle reshape their midfield department ahead of Matthias Jaissle’s arrival. Recruitment plans are already shifting. The Premier League club initially opened talks with Inter for young prospect Aleksandar Stankovic, only to be told the youngster would not be allowed to leave. At that point, Inter steered conversations towards a different name: Frattesi.

Inter have set a €25 million price tag on the box-to-box midfielder as they look to generate immediate funds. Cristian Chivu is prepared to approve a permanent sale, seeing it as a way to trim his squad, ease the wage bill and recycle money back into a title defence push next season.

Lazio, though, have been in the picture for some time. Gennaro Gattuso wants Frattesi to strengthen his midfield options, but the Roman club are operating under tighter financial limits. They can only put forward an initial loan with a conditional option to buy, a structure that falls short of Inter’s demands and leaves them exposed in direct competition.

That’s where Newcastle hold the edge. Backed by income from recent high-profile departures, the Magpies can go straight in with a permanent offer that aligns with Inter’s valuation. Their strong working relationship with Frattesi’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, adds another layer in their favour and could accelerate talks if they decide to push.

Frattesi, renowned for his late runs and goalscoring threat from midfield, is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League for the first time, having previously been linked with Nottingham Forest. With Inter keen to bank a sale and Newcastle circling with cash in hand, the Italian has become a very real, very attainable target for the Tyneside club.
