Newcastle Signs Bazoumana Touré for £42 Million

Newcastle have moved quickly and decisively to reshape their attack, sealing the £42 million signing of Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim.

The 20-year-old arrives as the direct replacement for Anthony Gordon, stepping into a vacancy created after Newcastle lost out to Liverpool in the race for Víctor Muñoz. The message from Tyneside is clear: there will be no lingering over missed targets.

“I’m very, very happy to be here. It was my dream since I was young to play in the Premier League for a big team like Newcastle,” he said. He spoke of a club that already feels like home: “Newcastle is like a family, which will help me show my best on the pitch. I will give my best every single day for this shirt.”

He is not coming to make up the numbers. “I’m very excited to join Newcastle and I can’t wait to meet my team-mates, the supporters and everybody at the club. I’m also very excited to play at St James’ Park for the first time.”

A rapid rise across Europe

Touré’s journey to one of English football’s most demanding stages has been blisteringly quick.

He only arrived in Europe in early 2024, joining Swedish side Hammarby. Within a year, his form had dragged him into the spotlight. Hoffenheim moved to secure him, and the Bundesliga stage suited him immediately.

Last season he produced five goals and nine assists, driving Hoffenheim to a fifth-placed finish and a Europa League spot. Those numbers, at his age, in a major European league, explain why Newcastle were prepared to commit such a sizeable fee.

His club progress has been mirrored by his international rise. Touré made his debut for Ivory Coast in October 2025 and featured three times for his country at this summer's World Cup, gaining valuable experience under the harshest lights the game can offer.

Howe’s verdict on a “high ceiling” talent

Eddie Howe has rarely hidden his preference for hungry, upwardly mobile players. Touré fits the profile perfectly.

“We’re really pleased to have been able to bring Bazoumana to Newcastle United,” the Newcastle boss said. “He has shown his ability to perform in a top European league during his time in Germany and has gained really good experience with his national team, especially at this summer's World Cup.”

Then came the key line, the one that hints at how Newcastle view this signing in the long term.

“We feel that he’s a player with a really high ceiling -- he’s somebody who we believe can offer us something different. He also has a lot of potential to unlock and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

That “something different” will be crucial. With Gordon gone and Muñoz heading to Anfield, Newcastle needed a new angle on the left flank: direct running, creativity, and the bravery to take on defenders in one-on-one situations in front of a demanding St James’ Park crowd.

Building the new-look Newcastle

Touré becomes Newcastle's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims. The pattern is obvious: young, high-upside signings who can grow with the project, rather than short-term fixes.

The pressure on Touré will be immediate. He is stepping into a role vacated by a fan favourite, in a league he has never played in, for a substantial fee. Yet his trajectory so far suggests he thrives when the bar is raised.

From Hammarby to Hoffenheim, from the Bundesliga to the World Cup, and now to the Premier League and the roar of St James’ Park. The climb has been steep. Newcastle are betting that he is nowhere near the summit yet.
