Newcastle to Pay €11 Million for Matthias Jaissle's Move from Al-Ahli
Newcastle United has finalized the amount they will pay Saudi club Al-Ahli to secure the services of German coach Matthias Jaissle. Reports indicate that the Premier League club will hand over around 11 million euros as compensation.
Jaissle Resigns, Ready to Join Newcastle
On Thursday, Jaissle officially resigned from his position at Al-Ahli, clearing his path to replace Eddie Howe as Newcastle’s head coach next season. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on X that Jaissle is set to arrive this Saturday to be introduced as Newcastle's new sporting director, agreeing to a contract lasting until 2030.
Contract Negotiations and Sticking Points
While Jaissle almost signed a similar four-year deal with Al-Ahli, negotiations faltered due to a clause he requested. He wanted a guarantee that if dismissed, the full value of his contract would still be paid. The Saudi club declined to include this condition, which contributed to his departure.

Since taking over at Al-Ahli in 2023, after replacing Pitso Mosimane, Jaissle spent three seasons guiding the team to significant victories. Under his leadership, the club secured two AFC Champions League Elite titles and won the Saudi Super Cup for the first time in nine years.
