Mohamed Salah Shines in Trabzonspor's Victory Over Basaksehir

Mohamed Salah wasted no time announcing himself in Turkey, hitting a decisive brace as Trabzonspor edged Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1.

The former Liverpool star, who signed a two-year deal with the Super Lig club at the start of August, started for the first time on Sunday after a brief debut from the bench in last week’s 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa. This time he didn’t wait around.

Eight minutes in, Salah struck. Named in the XI and keen to make a statement, he found the breakthrough early, giving Trabzonspor the perfect platform in front of their home crowd.

Basaksehir hit back. On 19 minutes, Eldor Shomurodov stepped up to the spot and calmly converted, dragging the visitors level and briefly quietening the noise.

The reset didn’t last long.

Just three minutes after the restart, Salah restored Trabzonspor’s lead, finishing off his second of the night to reassert control and underline exactly why the club moved for him this summer.

That goal proved enough. Trabzonspor held their advantage to the whistle, Salah’s double delivering their first league win of the campaign and his first goals in their colours.

Next up is Amed SK on August 31, with Salah already looking like the man the Super Lig will have to reckon with.
