Milan Eyes Ruben Dias Transfer Amid Obstacles
Milan eye ambitious move for Ruben Dias – but obstacles loom large
Ruben Amorim wants a defender. Milan know they need one. And a heavyweight name has suddenly appeared on their board: Ruben Dias.
The Serie A club have been working closely with super-agent Jorge Mendes throughout the summer, and that relationship has opened an unexpected door. Mendes was in Milan recently for talks on several fronts, and from those conversations came a bold idea – testing the waters for the Manchester City centre-back.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, initial contacts have already taken place, presumably with Mendes at the heart of them. Nothing advanced, no formal bid, but enough to place Dias firmly on Milan’s radar.
From a profile standpoint, the fit is obvious. The 29-year-old is understood to be on City’s transfer list, and his age appeals to the Rossoneri as they look for a defender in his prime, not just a prospect. They also sense an opportunity: injuries over the last two seasons have dented his status, and Milan would like to exploit that drop in market value.
On paper, it’s clever. In reality, it’s complicated.
Mendes represents both Amorim and Dias, so the link is natural. But City have already lost Rodri this summer and are reluctant to let another key figure walk out the door. Stripping more leadership and experience from the spine of Pep Guardiola’s squad is not something the English champions are keen to entertain.
Then there is the money. Any deal for Dias would demand a huge financial commitment in both fee and wages. For Milan, operating under tighter economic constraints, that presents a serious problem. The structure required to make such a move work would be extremely difficult to assemble.
So the idea is on the table, the conversations have started, and the name is real. But unless something dramatic shifts in Manchester or in Milan’s finances, Ruben Dias in red and black feels more like a daring vision than an imminent reality.
