Mikey Moore Set for Cologne Loan as Spurs Eye Double Transfer
Mikey Moore is on the brink of swapping north London for the Rhine. According to Bild, 1. FC Cologne are close to securing the 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur winger on loan, with a basic agreement in place for some time. The final piece was always the coach’s blessing – and Roberto De Zerbi has now given it.
That green light was not a formality. De Zerbi had been reluctant to lose Moore, counting on the teenager in the early weeks of the season. Moore even started in Tottenham’s 3–0 Premier League defeat to Brentford on Saturday, a sign of how highly the new Spurs boss rates him in a squad still under construction.
The picture is changing quickly at Hotspur Way. The squad squeeze that kept Moore in London is expected to ease, with Spurs on the verge of a major attacking reshuffle. English outlets report that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester City for Savinho and Omar Marmoush, a double move said to total around €185 million in transfer fees. Under Enzo Maresca, Pep Guardiola’s successor at City, both players have barely featured, and Spurs are ready to capitalise.
Once that business is wrapped up, Moore becomes expendable – but not forgotten. De Zerbi has been pushing hard behind the scenes for reinforcements and made no secret of his frustration after the Brentford loss. His analysis cut straight through the performance and landed on Moore by name.
“We were not ready to win the duels. We made a lot of mistakes in the pressing with Mikey Moore,” De Zerbi said, underlining both the youngster’s importance to his current system and his rawness at this level. For a 19-year-old, those are growing pains. For a coach under pressure, they are costly details.
Cologne are ready to offer Moore the minutes – and the margin for error – that Tottenham cannot guarantee this season.
The Cologne plan: Moore as Kaminski’s heir
The role waiting for him in the Bundesliga is clearly defined. Cologne see Moore as the natural successor to Jakub Kaminski on the right flank, after the Pole’s move to Benfica. The Englishman would be asked to attack the touchline, stretch defences and balance the left-sided threat of Said El Mala, who recently surprised many by extending his contract with the Billy Goats.
Cologne had cast the net wide for that profile, even talking to clubs such as BVB without finding an agreement. Moore fits the gap: young, direct, already blooded in a demanding environment and available on a loan deal that suits their budget.
He also arrives with meaningful senior experience. Last season, Moore spent the year on loan at Rangers, making 47 appearances in all competitions. He scored seven goals and added four assists – solid numbers for a teenager adapting to the physical and emotional intensity of Glasgow.
Those months in Scotland hardened him. Now comes a different challenge: a tactical, high-tempo Bundesliga, a club that lives off its crowd’s emotion, and a coach who clearly wants him.
If the final signatures land as expected, Cologne will not just be getting a prospect from the Premier League. They will be getting a winger asked to grow up quickly at Tottenham – and now handed a stage of his own.
