Mason Greenwood's Future: Leaving Marseille for Fenerbahce or Roma?
Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia – but his time at Olympique de Marseille is still drawing to a close.
The 24-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons at OM, is expected to leave the club this summer. According to La Provence, he has already handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a small but telling gesture that underlines the direction of travel. The chapter in the south of France is closing.
Saudi clubs tried to change his mind. Sacha Tavolieri reports that Greenwood received substantial offers from Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah. The money on the table was serious. The answer was not. Greenwood rejected all three approaches, making it clear that his next move will not be to the Gulf.
His future, instead, is being written elsewhere.
L’Équipe report that Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. That is a significant step: the player is on board, the project appeals, the numbers work for him. But the deal is far from done. The Turkish side still have to find common ground with Marseille, and that is where the real battle lies.
Price Tag
OM have set their price. They value Greenwood at €50m, and they are holding that line. For any suitor, the negotiation starts there.
Competition
Fenerbahce are not alone in the chase. AS Roma are also in the frame and, crucially, Greenwood is understood to be keen on a move to the Italian capital. Roma’s interest adds a different flavour to the story: a major Serie A club, a historic city, and a project that could tempt a player looking to rebuild and relaunch.
But, just as with Fenerbahce, Roma have yet to strike an agreement with Marseille. Admiration is not enough. Intent is not enough. Until someone meets OM’s demands, Greenwood remains their player in name, if not in long-term planning.
The house in Aix is empty. The offers from Saudi Arabia are off the table. Between Istanbul and Rome, the next decisive phone call now belongs to the clubs willing to match Marseille’s price.
