Manchester United's Summer Transfer Plans: Darlow, Santos, and Ederson Moves

Manchester United are closing in on a double deal that underlines just how restless this summer’s market has become.

Karl Darlow and Andrey Santos are both moving towards the finish line, with United finalising terms as they push to reshape Erik ten Hag’s squad. Alongside them, long-term target Ederson is understood to be entering the final stages of his medical, raising the prospect of three arrivals being wrapped up within days.

The headline move is Darlow. The experienced goalkeeper is on the verge of a controversial switch across the Pennines from Leeds to Old Trafford after rejecting a new contract at Elland Road. Any transfer between those two clubs carries baggage; this one will be no different. For United, it is a calculated play for depth and reliability. For Leeds, it is a reminder that keeping hold of key figures is never guaranteed.

If those deals land as expected, United’s business could help trigger a wider shake-up between the posts across the Premier League.

Goalkeepers on the move

The market for keepers is beginning to spin. Everton are weighing up a move for Sam Johnstone, according to reports, but will not move until the picture becomes clearer around their own options.

Mark Travers, currently second-choice at Goodison Park, has drawn interest from Wrexham and newly-promoted Coventry City. His future will influence Everton’s next step. Should Travers move on, the path opens for Johnstone, who has made 27 appearances for Wolves since arriving two years ago.

Relegation has changed everything at Molineux. Wolves’ drop could push Johnstone towards an immediate Premier League return and, crucially for suitors, may bring his price down to a level that invites bids. Clubs sense an opportunity. Everton are watching closely.

Newcastle brace for life after Bruno?

Higher up the table, Newcastle United are quietly planning for a scenario they insist they do not want to face.

Bruno Guimaraes remains central to their project and the club maintain he is not for sale, with two years still left on his contract. Yet contingency plans are already being drawn up. Brazilian outlet Band Sports reports that Newcastle are lining up Danilo Santos of Botafogo as a priority target should Bruno depart.

“One Selecao international out, one in” is how the situation has been framed in Brazil. Danilo, 25, returned home after his spell at Nottingham Forest and has since grown into one of the standout midfielders in Brazil’s top flight. His versatility in the middle of the park has caught Newcastle’s eye as they look to reinforce their options and protect themselves against a potential exit for their captain.

The pressure on that plan could increase quickly. L’Equipe, via Standard, claims Bruno has already agreed personal terms over a five-year deal with Arsenal. Standard also reports that Arsenal are preparing their first official bid to test Newcastle’s resolve. Publicly, Newcastle are holding the line. Privately, they are making sure they are not caught cold.

Liverpool circle Minteh as the dominoes line up

On Merseyside, Liverpool are positioning themselves for a move of their own.

TEAMtalk reports that the club are readying a bid for Yankuba Minteh, with the Brighton winger viewed as one of the alternatives to Yan Diomande. Brighton, as ever, will not sell cheaply. The Seagulls are said to be demanding £80 million for the 19-year-old attacker.

There is another twist. Manchester United’s reported interest in Crysencio Summerville could indirectly clear Liverpool’s path to Minteh. If United focus their resources on the Leeds winger, Liverpool may find less competition in the race for the Brighton prospect.

Across the league, one theme runs through it all: clubs are moving early, building escape routes, and bracing for bids that could reshape their seasons before a ball is even kicked.
