Manchester United's Left-Back Search: Bradley Locko Interested
Manchester United’s left‑back hunt has a new name on the table – and he wants the move.
With the transfer window ticking into its final days, Brest defender Bradley Locko is understood to be open to joining United and linking up with Michael Carrick’s squad, according to journalist Dylan McBennett.
United’s need is clear. A new left-back is a priority before the deadline, and the club have been scouring the market for what has been described as a “solution” rather than a marquee signing.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has already outlined the landscape. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said he expects United to be active in the final four or five days of the window and stressed that left-back remains a key area to address.
United have looked at big names. Alejandro Balde featured in their discussions, with Romano revealing that the club held a call with Jorge Mendes about the Barcelona full-back last week. The talks went nowhere. INEOS judged the overall package – both fee and wages – to be too expensive, and the move was shelved.
So the search has shifted. Not towards a superstar, but towards a dependable option who can compete, cover, and arrive on a realistic deal.
Romano compared the profile to the Sergio Reguilon loan from Tottenham: an experienced left-back with an international profile who can step straight into the squad and raise standards without blowing up the budget. He made it clear he was not saying United would sign that exact type of player again, but that this is the bracket they are exploring.
That is where Locko comes in.
McBennett reported on X that the 24-year-old Frenchman is among a group of left-backs keen on a move to Old Trafford before the window closes. Posting at 8:59am on August 28, he stated that Locko would be open to joining United and is “among numerous left-backs with desire to join United this summer.”
Locko has been with Brest since 2023 and is under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2027. Still only 24, he has already made 67 appearances in all competitions for Brest, contributing five assists from left-back.
Those numbers will not dominate headlines. But United are not chasing headlines in this position now. They are chasing reliability, depth, and a defender willing to fight for a place in a squad trying to re-establish itself at the top end of the Premier League.
The club are expected to move for a left-back before the deadline. Whether that late-window solution turns out to be Bradley Locko is the next question.
