Manchester United Completes £70m Deal for Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have reached an agreement worth up to £70m to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, accelerating their midfield rebuild with another major investment.
A breakthrough in talks came on Friday evening, clearing the way for the 22-year-old to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford. Once the final details are completed, the Cameroon international will become the latest piece in United’s reshaped engine room.
United turned to Baleba this week after deciding their midfield still needed reinforcing, even after the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. The message from the recruitment team is clear: control games, and do it with depth.
The deal will see United pay an initial £65m, with a further £5m tied to performance-related add-ons.
Brighton, who have built a reputation for extracting maximum value for their top assets, have also secured a sell-on clause, protecting their long-term interest if Baleba’s value climbs again at Old Trafford.
For United, it is another big swing on a young midfielder with high upside. For Brighton, it is another lucrative departure, carefully structured. The next question is simple: how quickly can Baleba turn that price tag into presence in the heart of United’s midfield?
