Manchester City Signs Ayyoub Bouaddi for £85.6m as Rebuild Accelerates
Manchester City have agreed a deal worth up to £85.6m (€100m) with Lille for teenage midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, a move that underlines the scale of the overhaul under Enzo Maresca.
City will pay a guaranteed £81m (€95m) for the 18-year-old Morocco international, with the remaining sum tied to performance-related add-ons. Once the paperwork is complete, Bouaddi is expected to sign a long-term contract and walk straight into a midfield that has been ripped apart and rapidly rebuilt in one turbulent summer.
Maresca’s midfield, remade
Bouaddi’s arrival is designed to give Maresca fresh control in the middle of the pitch after the exits of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders. Losing that pair would have unsettled any manager; for a new one, it threatened to redefine the entire identity of the side.
Now City are throwing their weight behind youth and potential. Bouaddi, who caught the eye with his performances at the World Cup, becomes the latest major investment in a new core, following the £116m signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
The message is clear: Maresca will not be easing into this job. He is being handed a very different City to the one Pep Guardiola left behind.
End of an era at the Etihad
