Manchester City Sign Brazilian Winger Allan Elias for €40m
Manchester City have added another piece to their attacking armoury, confirming the signing of Brazilian winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras on a five-year contract.
The 22-year-old becomes City’s sixth arrival of the summer, with the Premier League champions understood to be paying around €40 million ($47 million) for the wide man, who came through the academy at the Sao Paulo club and has already clocked up 96 first-team appearances.
City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana did not hide his excitement at the move.
“Allan is a really exciting player, and we think he will be a big addition to the squad,” Viana said in a statement on Monday. “He has shown throughout his short career so far that he will fight to be the best he can be.”
The deal continues a busy window at the Etihad. Elliot Anderson, Geronimo Rulli, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Jeremy Monga and Pierce Charles have all arrived as City refresh the squad that has dominated English football over the last decade and a half.
For Allan, born in Florianopolis, the transfer marks a leap from South America to one of the most demanding stages in world football — and he knows exactly what it means.
“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” he said.
“To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life. I love Palmeiras and always will — but the decision to come to City was an easy one.”
He also framed his move as the next chapter in a familiar story for the club: Brazilians thriving in sky blue.
Elias said he hoped to be “another good Brazilian” in the Premier League, following the path carved out at City by Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and Fernandinho, all of whom lifted Premier League titles during their time at the Etihad.
Now comes the hard part: turning promise into end product in a team where standards rarely dip and competition for minutes never lets up.
