Man Utd’s Midfield Target: Aurelien Tchouameni Tops List Despite Challenges
Manchester United has already strengthened its midfield with the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer. Yet, the club is still aiming to add a specialist defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Aurelien Tchouameni: The Top Priority
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid is at the very top of United’s list for their third midfield signing. Valued at around £68 million, the French international is highly rated by the club.
"Tchouameni is right near the top of the list," Jacobs said, emphasizing United’s strong interest in the 26-year-old.
Despite United's admiration, securing the player seems difficult. Tchouameni appears committed to Real Madrid, reportedly having signed a new contract with the Spanish side. Convincing one of the world’s premier defensive midfielders to leave Bernabeu remains a significant hurdle.
Other Midfield Candidates on United’s Radar
If Tchouameni is out of reach, United has several other options. Manu Kone, currently at AS Roma, is a leading contender. Jacobs notes Kone is "much higher on the list," and personal terms may have been discussed, although the clubs have yet to negotiate.
Alex Scott also stays on the radar, despite Bournemouth’s efforts to retain him. Meanwhile, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba continues to attract attention following another strong season. Tyler Adams, also with Bournemouth, offers Premier League experience and the defensive skills United desires.
Tchouameni’s Appeal vs. Realistic Alternatives
Among these names, Tchouameni stands out due to his complete skill set: elite defensive awareness, athleticism, calmness on the ball, and experience at the highest level. Were he available, it’s clear why United would prioritize him.
Realistically, the club may turn to players like Kone and Scott as more attainable targets before the transfer deadline.
