Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until Mid-2027

Luka Modric, now 40, has decided to continue his career with AC Milan by signing a contract extension that keeps him at the club until mid-2027. The Italian side confirmed the news via their official channels.

The Croatian midfielder’s previous contract ended on June 30, 2026, making him a free agent. Despite earlier hints that he would wait until after the 2026 World Cup to decide his next step, Modric has now committed to Milan for another year, even though he will turn 41 later this summer.

The club praised him for being a crucial part of their midfield since joining and highlighted his experience and dedication both on and off the pitch. AC Milan described Modric as one of football’s greatest icons and confirmed he will keep wearing the number 14 shirt.

New Era Under Ruben Amorim

Modric will remain a key figure as Milan embarks on a fresh chapter under head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach was recently appointed to guide the team forward.

After an impressive tenure at Real Madrid, Modric moved to Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. He quickly became an integral player, featuring in 37 competitive games during his debut season, scoring twice and assisting three times.

His influence extends beyond club football, having appeared in all four of Croatia’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, before their exit against Portugal in the round of 16.
