At the PSG Campus in Poissy, Luis Enrique cut a clear figure: no risks, no shortcuts, no half-measures with his players’ bodies or minds.
On the eve of PSG’s next outing, the Spanish coach underlined that selection will not come down to reputation or urgency, but to whether his players feel truly ready to step back into the fight.
Barcola’s return on his terms
Bradley Barcola is edging back towards the squad, but Enrique made it plain that the winger will decide the final step himself.
“If he’s still unwell, he won’t play tomorrow,” the coach said, laying down the rule.
Barcola took part in a partial session on the previous day and completed full training on the day of the press conference. The staff see him “coming back” and “finding the best conditions,” yet Enrique stressed that the green light must come from the player.
“He’ll tell us when he’s ready. He’s lacking a little confidence,” Enrique admitted, acknowledging that physical recovery is only half the battle. The other half is mental, and he refuses to drag a hesitant player into a competitive match just because the calendar demands it.
Ruiz on “the right track”
Fabian Ruiz’s situation follows the same logic. No rush, no drama.
“Ruiz? That’s how it is. When a player is injured, we have to wait and see how he feels. There are no problems,” Enrique said.
The midfielder has not yet returned to training, but the medical and technical staff are working to restore him to full fitness, step by step.
“It’s normal to play through pain,” Enrique conceded, reflecting the reality of elite football, “but we’re still focused on giving the players the confidence to show their condition.” Ruiz “hasn’t trained yet,” the coach confirmed, but he is “progressing,” with daily conversations between player and staff shaping the pace of his comeback.
“We talk every day. We’re happy. He’s on the right track,” Enrique concluded.
In a season where margins are thin and pressure unrelenting, PSG’s coach has drawn a clear boundary: no player will be thrown in just to plug a gap. They will play when body and belief finally align.
