Liverpool's £80m Target Yankuba Minteh Could Join Before Deadline
As the transfer window nears its close, Liverpool might still add a fresh face to their squad. Even though Cody Gakpo is set to remain at Anfield, talks are ongoing about bringing in Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh.
Reports from GIVEMESPORT's senior correspondent Ben Jacobs reveal that Minteh’s agents are actively pushing for a deal to be finalized today, just before the 11pm transfer deadline.
Transfer Developments
Earlier on Monday, it became clear that Liverpool would hold onto Gakpo, who had been linked with a high-value move to Manchester City. The Reds have shown interest in several wide players, including Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, but no agreement has yet been reached.
Jacobs shared on talkSPORT that Brighton's representatives are hopeful about sealing the transfer soon. While Liverpool’s previous £60 million bid was declined, Brighton reportedly want around £80 million for the Gambian winger. Whether there will be flexibility in those demands remains to be seen as the clock ticks down.
Why Minteh Fits Liverpool’s Plans
The current Liverpool squad shows a shortage of balance among wingers. With players like Bradley Barcola, Gakpo, and Victor Munoz mostly operating from the left side, a right-sided winger like Minteh would offer a much-needed alternative.
Minteh is known for his explosive speed, clocking a top speed of 36.2 km/h last season, with 555 sprints recorded in the Premier League. His stats for the 2025-26 season include 3 goals and 4 assists, highlighting his potential to impact games.
The club’s coach, Iraola, has a history of valuing pacey attackers, demonstrated during his time at Bournemouth with players such as Antoine Semenyo and Eli Junior Kroupi. Adding Minteh aligns with this approach.
