Liverpool Signs Djylian N'Guessan for 2027 Future
Liverpool are moving on two timelines at once this summer: one eye on the here and now, the other fixed firmly on the next generation.
With the window ticking into its final days and a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola still awaiting official confirmation, the club have quietly pushed ahead with another piece of long-term planning in attack.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign St Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan, with the teenager scheduled to arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2027. Romano reports that an agreement is in place not only between the clubs, but also on the player’s side, and that N'Guessan has been authorised to undergo a medical.
The fee remains under wraps. The strategy does not.
Liverpool have already shown their willingness to invest heavily in tomorrow’s squad. The Merseyside club recently struck a €35 million deal with Genk for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, another signing who will not link up with the club until next summer. Now they appear to be repeating the model in attack, banking a centre-forward three years in advance.
Supporters will welcome the sight of the club stockpiling elite prospects, but they will also expect movement for players who can impact the starting XI immediately before this window closes.
Who is Djylian N'Guessan?
N'Guessan only turned 18 recently, but St Etienne have already pushed him towards the first-team picture. A centre-forward by trade, he can also operate from the flanks, giving Liverpool the positional flexibility they increasingly demand from their forwards.
He has made 13 senior appearances for the French club, several of them during the 2024-25 season, while spending most of his minutes with Saint Etienne's B team and under-19 side. On the international stage, he has been capped up to under-20 level for his country, underlining his status as one of the more highly regarded talents of his age group.
For now, though, his development will continue in France. Staying at Saint Etienne, where he can play regular football and grow away from the glare of the Premier League, may prove more valuable than an immediate switch to Liverpool.
The plan is clear: let him mature, then bring him into a Liverpool side that, if this window is any indication, will look very different by the time 2027 comes around.
