Liverpool Reject £30m Bid for Trey Nyoni as Iraola Supports Teen
Liverpool have shut the door on Nottingham Forest’s attempt to prise Trey Nyoni out of Anfield, rejecting a £30million offer for the highly rated midfielder.
Forest put forward a proposal worth £25m guaranteed with a further £5m in add-ons, testing Liverpool’s resolve as the transfer deadline looms on Tuesday. The answer from Merseyside was blunt: Nyoni is not for sale.
This is not a token stance. Andoni Iraola is building his first Liverpool season with the 19-year-old firmly in his plans after an eye-catching pre-season that convinced the new head coach he could lean on the England youth international right away.
Liverpool’s faith in Nyoni has already shaped their summer. When Curtis Jones left for Inter in a £30m deal earlier this month, the club chose not to buy a like-for-like replacement, effectively promoting Nyoni into a bigger role rather than blocking his pathway.
He is tied to a long-term contract signed last summer, and Liverpool are already expected to revisit terms again, keen to reflect his rapid development over the past year and ward off growing interest.
Nyoni has made 21 senior appearances since joining from Leicester City’s academy three years ago, a steady rise that accelerated again at the weekend. Coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Forest at Anfield, he injected energy and composure, turning heads on and off the pitch — including, it seems, in the away dugout.
Iraola, though, has been convinced for some time.
“I’m very happy with Trey,” he said before the season kicked off. “He has been very good in pre-season, not only in the games, even when he trains with us he’s facing top-level players and he’s at the level. I have no doubts with Trey. He will be very valuable this season for us, hopefully plays a lot and gives the level that I’m seeing every day in training.”
Forest tested Liverpool’s resolve. The response underlined where Nyoni now sits in the club’s hierarchy: no longer a prospect on the fringes, but a central piece in Iraola’s plans for the campaign ahead.
